BIOGRAPHY
Cath Brophy creates large-scale, predominantly monochrome mixed-media drawings on paper. Her working process usually begins with making observational studies of architectural features in the built environment around her, in the form of drawings and collages. Then she simplifies and reconfigures elements from these studies in different combinations, until she finds an arrangement which evokes a sense of layering and depth. Her intention is to create abstract compositions which subtly play with the viewerʼs perception of space.
Cath Brophy studied Visual Arts at Middlesex University in London and completed a Master of Fine Art in Drawing at the National Arts School in Sydney. Originally from Brisbane, Australia, she has lived in London, Istanbul, Sydney and Zurich. She also previously lived in Hong Kong for four years and is delighted to be living and working here once again since late 2023.
