Jon Poblador
BIOGRAPHY
Repetition is one of the principal themes in Jon Poblador’s work. His focus is on the meditative process of mark-making and he uses various materials to explore within the specific boundaries that guide his philosophy.
He operates primarily within a grid system because he defines it as a “Mysterious Whole” – a concept he learned from a Buddhist teacher who mentioned to him that wholeness was not singular or multiple. For Poblador, the grid is one composition made from many. It brings order from disorder and reveals patterns. Although he understands that the idea of order is not perfect and can be seen as an illusion, he is fascinated by the many ways the grid manifests itself.
Additionally, Poblador also has a side project of large-scale insect drawings
Poblador is a full-time secondary school art teacher and has a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Pennsylvania. He has exhibited in Philadelphia, New York City, Phoenix, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong -- where he currently resides with his wife, Susan, and their mildly crazy dog, Otis.
