Ka Lok Ng

BIOGRAPHY

Ka Lok Ng is an oil painter who was born in Hong Kong and raised in Canada. Despite having lived in both countries, he struggled to assimilate himself, finding it difficult to understand the different ideas and practices of either cultures. It was during his undergraduate years that Ng was introduced to oil painting during his time as a member of the Painting and Drawing Club. To Ng, painting thus became a practice of meaningful discovery. Through his work, Ng finds himself developing a gestalt sense of life as he gains a new mindset of appreciation and is released from conventional ideas.

Ng employs both Eastern and Western philosophies to guide his practice. As he paints, he tries to achieve a sense of balance within his compositions. Ng believes art to be an imprint of our subconscious psyche, and he perceives the practice as a form of applied philosophy that can enrich our consciousness and cultural assimilation.

Ng has obtained a Bachelors of Fine Art degree in Fine Art Photography at Savannah College of Art and Design.
