One place After

One place After

We are delighted to invite you to visit《One place After》at Yrellag Gallery this Christmas, a solo exhibition featuring artist Polly Lo. The exhibition opening will be held on Saturday, 14 December 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will be on view from 10 December 2024 until 3 January 2025. The artist will be present during the opening.

A place means more than an inhabited space. For Polly Lo, it is her daily nutrient and a place to meditate. “One place After” is the term she come up in her mind when she paints. In Lo’s paintings a place is an image, an image transcends inhabited spaces, representing its consciousness and interpretation through her perspective and projection of emotions.

Lo found her inspirations from the stairs she always walks by during the way to her studio. In art and photography, staircase can evoke a sense of intrigue, leading the viewer to question what lies beyond or above. As an element embedded in her paintings, she regards it as a symbol of movement, transformation, and mystery, echoes with the location of the gallery, resting by the side of the continual staircase spreading around the middle-levels.

Yrellag Gallery is pleased to present “One Place After”, a solo exhibition by Polly Lo. Places being depicted are extracted from representations of the real world, infused with style, reminiscence, and thoughts, reflecting from its colours, brushstrokes, and composition. Through artist reinterpretation of her innermost images, ideas, emotions and memories of these places, paintings are imbued with vividness and new meaning.
