Embracing Creativity

Entrants are free to create their artworks based on any theme. This year, a special award will be offered for the theme “City Vibrance: Art and Light.” In addition to this, regular competition awards will also be given.

The primary goal of the competition is to promote art and stimulate the creativity of local secondary school students. It encourages young talents to step outside their classrooms and broaden their horizons. This is an excellent opportunity for students to express themselves through their art.

Supporting Organizations

This edition of the competition is supported by the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA). They play a vital role in promoting artistic expression among youth. Furthermore, this year’s competition will accept digital art entries. This change allows students to explore a wider range of platforms, showcasing their skills and creativity through different mediums.

Who Can Enter?

The competition is open to all full-time Form 1 to Form 6 students in Hong Kong who are enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year. However, employees of Wheelock and Company Limited, The Wharf Group, and its subsidiaries, including the HKMoA, as well as their immediate family members or relatives, are prohibited from enrolling in this competition.

Background Information

Art competitions for secondary school students have proven to be a remarkable way to inspire young artists. Participating in competitions helps students by building their confidence, showcasing their work to a broader audience, and enhancing their resumes. Additionally, students engage in healthy competition that can propel them toward greater artistic pursuits.

Importance of Art in Education

Through art, students can communicate emotions and ideas that might be difficult to express otherwise. This form of expression has been shown to improve mental health and well-being. Furthermore, art enriches the school curriculum and promotes a creative atmosphere in educational settings.

Tips for Participants

  • Choose Your Medium Wisely: Think carefully about whether you want to create a painting or digital art. Each medium has its strengths.

  • Stay True to Yourself: Your art should reflect your unique perspective. Don’t be afraid to show your individuality.

  • Prepare Your Submission Early: Don't wait until the last moment to finalize your artwork. Aim to finish it ahead of the deadline to give yourself plenty of time for revisions.

Competition Deadline

The deadline for submissions is 12th February 2025.
